Nihan Ulutan was born in Ankara in 1999. She took up her first amateur piano lessons at the age of 8 during weekends.
In 2009, she succeeded in Bilkent University entrance exams with full scholarship for piano She started her studies at Bilkent with lecturer of Faculty of Music and Performing Arts Gamze Kirtil, who has received her masters degree from ‘Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris’. The same year Nihan successfully gave solo performances at TSE, Japanese Embassy and Modern Arts Center in Ankara and did live performances for Kanal B and Ses TV national television channels. In 2010, she was accepted into Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory and started studying with Sanem Berkalp.
Nihan’s first competition was in 2015, Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory 2nd National Piano Competition, she won the third prize for the category ages 14-17. The jury included İdil Biret, Professor Selçuk Gündemir, Özgür Aydın, Ferhan and Ferzan Önder.
In 2016, Nihan competed in her second competition in Baku Music Academy’s 5 th International Competition, where she represented Turkey. She was the youngest of the performing competitors. The jury included Professor Yegane Axundova and Nermina Quliyeva who is the head of piano department at Baku Music Academy. Nihan won the first prize for piano and third prize for general music. The jury gave positive reviews about her performance and she performed as the only pianist at the live performance of Azerbaijan Television broadcasted at the end of competition. That same year she won the third prize in the 5 th International Piano Competition
in Stockholm, Sweden.
Between 2010-2019 Nihan has regularly attended İdil Biret’s master classes. Throughout her piano education, Nihan’s studies continued under Ayşegül Sarıca, Misha Dacic, Marek Drewnowski, Roland Batik, Stefan Mehlig, Pamela Mia Paul and others.
In 2015, she worked with Joseph Paratore in Salzburg Mozarteum Academy and performed at several concerts.
In 2018, she was accepted into Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf and started studying with Paolo Giacometti.
Between 2018 –2020 she gave public concerts in Köln Yunus Emre Institut, Essen and Neuss for the mayor of Neuss city in Germany. Also she has attented regulary concerts in Düsseldorf Robert Schumann Hochschule.
She has received positive reviews in different publications from various music critics. Interviewed for several magazines ; Andante Music Magazine, Sabah Europa Newspaper, Başkent Newspaper.
Nihan Ulutan continues her studies at Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf with Paolo Giacometti.
